Eastwick Road Closure: September 21 to November 8

There will be a closure in both directions on Eastwick Road (C161 between Eastwick Roundabout and The Dusty Miller) for a seven week period from September 21 to November 8, 2026 as part of the Central Stort Crossing project.

A signed diversion route will be in place via High Wych. Drivers are encouraged to follow the official diversion route, particularly as other roadworks are taking place across the local network.

In addition to this total road closure, 24-hour lane closures will remain on the A414 until early November.

From September 22, road users should be prepared for the lane closures to switch from inside lanes to outside lanes to facilitate ongoing works.

The highways improvements form part of the wider Central Stort Crossing programme and are expected to be completed in Winter 2028.

The overall programme includes installing construction accesses off the A414 to form safe access to working areas on the upcoming Gilston development.

This will be followed by improvements along the A414/Eastwick Road and along Fifth Avenue – Zelenskyy Avenue.

In later phases, Eastwick Roundabout will be converted to a traffic signal-controlled junction for better traffic flow.

To minimise the long-term impact for residents and road users along Eastwick Road, temporary two-way traffic lights will also be installed at the Burnt Mill junction to support the installation of BT diversion works.

This will be delivered in phases, starting on September 14, 2026, as part of a 16-week programme and all residents will retain access to their homes.

At the same time, two-way traffic lights will be installed along Zelenskyy Avenue during nighttime works, and the 24-hour lane closures along the A414 dual carriageway will remain until early 2027.
